Giriraj Singh granted bail by Begusarai MP-MLA Court after surrender in 2019 election speech case

Union Minister and Begusarai MP Giriraj Singh was granted bail on Monday by the ACJM-cum-MP/MLA Court in Begusarai after surrendering in connection with a case linked to an alleged controversial remark made during the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign. The court heard his bail application and subsequently allowed the plea, providing significant interim relief in the matter that has remained under judicial consideration for several years.

Giriraj Singh appeared before the MP-MLA Court and formally surrendered in compliance with legal proceedings. Following the hearing, the court granted him bail. Speaking to the media after receiving relief, the Union Minister said he had complete faith in the judiciary and expressed satisfaction with the court's decision. He stated that the case originated from a speech delivered during an election rally held in 2019 and described the bail order as a victory for justice.

The case relates to an election rally held at GD College Ground in Begusarai during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections. A complaint was subsequently lodged at the Town Police Station over remarks allegedly made during the speech. Acting on directions from the district administration at the time, police registered an FIR under various sections, including provisions related to incitement and public order. Since then, the matter has been undergoing judicial scrutiny before the competent court.

During the proceedings, defense counsel Amarendra Kumar Amar questioned the manner in which the investigation and prosecution records had been maintained. The defense informed the court that the original charge sheet submitted by the police was allegedly unavailable. The lawyer further contended that crucial documents, including the case diary, seizure list and other records connected to the investigation, were missing from the case file, raising concerns about the completeness of the judicial record.

The defense also objected to the nature of the documents submitted before the court, arguing that only three pages of the 20-page charge sheet were original records while the remaining pages were photocopies. The issue was brought to the court's attention during the hearing. Although the court has granted bail to Giriraj Singh, proceedings in the case will continue, with further hearings expected as the matter moves through the judicial process.
